Pawsitive Dog Training

Sara Alguire, KPA CTP (Click! Pawsitive Dog Training)

Sara Alguire, KPA CTP, believes that work should be play and learning should be fun! A public school educator for 31 years, Sara has lived this philosophy as a special education teacher, school social worker, and summer camp director.

Sara began incorporating her therapy dog, Duchess, into her work with children in 2005. This experience opened her eyes to the healing power of the human-animal bond. She has since used this powerful tool in a variety of therapeutic settings. She has served as a volunteer puppy raiser and task trainer for Canines for Change.

Sara graduated with distinction from Karen Pryor Academy and has been named a Certified Training Partner. Sara is committed to force-free training techniques that make a difference in the lives of pets and their owners.

Sara uses American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior recommended techniques that focus on reinforcing desired behaviors, removing reinforcement for inappropriate behaviors, and addressing the emotional state and environmental conditions that drive undesirable behaviors.

Sara's goal for every lesson is to make it fun for both the canine and their humans! Services offered include private lessons, behavioral consultations, group classes and personalized leash walking and manners training.

Therapy Dog Drop-In Practices

Looking to strengthen your therapy dog team skills in a supportive, real-world practice environment? Our Therapy Dog Drop-In Practices are designed for handlers and dogs interested in educational comfort work or therapy visits in settings such as schools, hospitals, libraries, and senior living communities.

These drop-in sessions focus on building confidence, polishing skills, and preparing teams for the unique environments and interactions encountered during therapy visits.

Please Note: These practices are intended for advanced-level dogs and handlers. Dogs should have strong foundational obedience skills equivalent to Canine Good Citizen level or completion of Beginning and Intermediate training courses. Dogs displaying leash reactivity, significant fear of people, or difficulty settling in public environments may be redirected to more appropriate training opportunities.

Skills practiced may include:
• Calm and confident exposure to sights, sounds, and environments commonly encountered during visits
• Polite greetings and handler engagement in distracting settings
• Relaxing and settling in unfamiliar environments
• Review and strengthening of sit/down stays with duration and distance
• Loose leash walking around distractions
• Automatic and cued “leave it” skills
• Understanding and reading canine body language and stress signals
• Supporting your dog’s comfort, welfare, and success in public settings
