Maegan is a graduate of Michigan State University, holding a B.S. in Animal Science. She has worked with over 15 different species of animals ranging from dogs and cats to cattle, alpaca, goats and rodents.


Maegan is a Certified Control Unleashed Instructor (CCUI), a Professional Dog Trainer listed with the Pet Professional Guild (PPG), and an Associate Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (ACDBC) with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). She also holds a certificate as a Puppy Start Right Instructor, and is listed as an AKC evaluator for the branches of Canine Good Citizen (CGC) testing as well as AKC Trick Dog testing.


Maegan holds several professional memberships including the Pet Professional Guild, Animal Training Academy (ATA), IAABC, and The Fear Free Coalition.


Maegan has had a lifelong interest in animals and their behavior. She has raised sheep, worked in animal education for the general public, and takes in every opportunity to attend seminars or read books on both human and animal behavior. Maegan is committed to using science to instruct humans and animals in how they can live their best lives together. Her goal is to teach the basic principles of behavior and training in an effort to ensure happy humans and happy animals. She is an advocate of force free, fear free, positive training.


Maegan has also competed/trained in Barn Hunt, Parkour, Rally, and Lure Coursing. Her doggy assistant Danny, holds titles in Barn Hunt, Parkour, CGC, and Trick Dog. She is also a volunteer for the Capital Area Humane Society, fostering and rehabilitating dogs when time allows.

This class will strengthen communication and understanding between you and your dog. It will focus on learning life skills that form the building blocks for behavior. These skills will set you and your puppy up for a life of mutual respect and communication. The class will heavily focus on using Pattern Games to equip our dogs (and ourselves) for all the distractions the world provides. Additional topics covered are stationing, targeting, learning to relax in the presence of other dogs, teaching a reliable recall, and how to establish comfort with grooming/vet visits. We will also discuss how to effectively socialize your puppy using a deliberate, focused, method. All dogs will have their own working stations. Recommended course book- Control Unleashed: Reactive to Relaxed

Who is this class for? This class is great for over-excited pups, shy pups, or as a preventive tool for reactivity. 


Puppies up to 1 year old (other ages accepted based on availability in class and instructor approval). No previous training experience is needed. 

Thursdays 6:30-7:15 p.m. Eight weeks: 1/8-2/16

All students must fill out a training survey.

Please provide proof of vaccinations on or before the first night of class. Can now be uploaded at sign up, but not required. (PLEASE NO LIVE PHOTOS, THE FILE WILL NOT DOWNLOAD CORRECTLY)

This class builds on the skills developed in Puppy Control Unleashed.  Focus will be on continuing to practice being calm in the face of exciting or scary situations, polite greetings, stationing, and moving through a distracting environment. All dogs will have their own working stations. Recommended course book- Control Unleashed: Reactive to Relaxed

Puppies up to 1 year old (other ages accepted based on availability in class and instructor approval). Previous enrollment in a Control Unleashed course or a basic puppy class is preferred. 

Please bring your dog on a harness with a standard 6 ft leash, plenty of really yummy treats (cheese, chicken, hot dogs, or similar).  Prong, slip, choke, vibration, or shock collars not permittedBring an inexpensive, portable mat and the book Reactive to Relaxed by Leslie McDevitt. (For dogs 6 month- 1 year - other ages accepted based on availability in class and instructor approval).
